We’ve certainly had our fair share of bites and stings on family days out, and from experience I know that being able to deal with them quickly and easily can make a big difference to how much fun the rest of the trip is. bite away® is a great way to do this.
WHAT IS BITE AWAY®?
bite away® is a chemical-free device for the symptomatic treatment of itching, pain and swelling caused by insect bites and stings. You can use it to treat bites and stings from mosquitoes, wasps, bees, hornets, horseflies and other biting insects. It looks a bit like a digital thermometer, and is designed to be held in the hand.
HOW DOES BITE AWAY® WORK?
bite away® uses heat technology to treat bites and stings. The device has a small ceramic contact area which heats up, this is applied to the affected area of skin where it provides a brief, concentrated application of heat. This heat application has been clinically proven to relieve itching, pain and swelling caused by insect bites and stings in just 2 minutes.
The pen-style device is simple to use. There are two buttons which offer different lengths of treatment time: 3 seconds for the initial treatment and more sensitive skin (I think this is a good option for kids), and 6 seconds for regular application. When either button is pressed, the ceramic contact area heats up to approximately 51°C. An LED light lets you know when this has been reached, and the device switches itself off after the selected duration of application. You also hear a beep at the start and end of the treatment, so it’s easy to understand when to take it off the skin.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT BITE AWAY®
bite away® is so quick and easy to use. This is brilliant for when you’re dealing with wriggly children! I’ve used it on both time settings, and there’s a brief warm sensation while the heat treatment takes place. Depending on sensitivity, this might be mildly uncomfortable, but in my experience it’s a pretty much painless experience – another big tick for treating kids.
For me, a big advantage of bite away® is the fact that you can effectively treat insect bites and stings without using chemical products. Our youngest has quite sensitive skin that tends to react, so it’s fantastic that we can now avoid using bite and sting cream. It’s also ideal for kids that don’t cope well with greasy creams.
I also really like the fact that bite away® is so portable. It’s battery-powered, so you can just pop it in your bag when you go out, and it takes up very little space.
Another big plus is the fact that bite away® is a one-time purchase – unlike creams and patches that run out and pass their sell-by date. You can use it over and over again, and the batteries are standard AA so they’re inexpensive to replace.
